Staying Motivated In These Frigid Temps

For those of us not living in warmer climates, winter can be a tough period to stay motivated to get to the gym and not give the ok to eat comfort food every night. Trust me I know how it feels. I was definitely feeling a bit sluggish over the past couple of weeks, but said to myself “Rich, snap out of it and get moving”. And so I did. What I find helps a lot during these cold months is to take group fitness classes. I enjoy these classes year round, but in the winter I find them to be especially important. I know I’m going to be around like-minded people and an enthusiastic instructor that’s going to get me going on that treadmill or get me to grab the heavier weight. Just surrounding myself with this type of energy gets me moving. I feel so much better when I’m active, that I forget about how cold it’s outside; until of course I walk out of those doors and wait for my Uber to take me home!

I love the group classes at Equinox. There is a Tabata class I love there that definitely raises the temps. Barrys Bootcamp and the FhittingRoom are my “go to’s” as well. Also, going to class with a friend definitely helps. I find myself being more accountable when I know someone is depending on me. It’s also great to have your own personal cheering squad.

Now for making sure I don’t over indulge in that winter comfort food. I simply do not have any of it in the apartment. When going out to lunch or dinner, I always look for the heathier options when possible, but let’s me honest I do allow myself once a week to indulge in that delicious comfort food. Remember, it’s all about balance.

Stay strong my friends, spring is around the corner!
